Amsterdamsche Football Club, known as AFC Ajax, is historically one of the top clubs in the world and is one of only 4 clubs to have won all three major European trophies at least once (European Cup, UEFA Cup and European Cup Winners Cup). The red-whites also have an unsurpassed record of 29 league titles and 15 national cups.
Once again the LG Amsterdam Tournament will present the ideal preparation for the tournament host club to prepare for the forthcoming season.
The tournament will be the first one for the young Ajax team under the guidance of the new head coach Marco van Basten and his staff of fellow former Ajax stars John van ‘t Schip and Rob Witschge. This new Ajax are literally at the start of a new era and looking for the approval and support of the fans during the LG Amsterdam Tournament.
Ajax are still seeking their 5th Tournament trophy, and will obviously do their very best to win this tenth edition. Stars Klaas Jan Huntelaar, Luis Suarez and the rest of the squad will need to be ready however, as they will face a tough test in the form of English super-club Arsenal FC, followed by a match up against 16-time Italian Champions Internazionale in the final match of the tournament on Saturday evening.
